On April 13, the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Expo launched. These existing pavilions became more popular than expected and the event was very well attended. The Expo site, Yumeshima, is mainly accessible via the Osaka Metro Chuo Line, but did you know that a ship called “Mahoroba” is actually in service? You can enjoy a cruise on the sea from Osaka City Bay area to Yumeshima while entering the Expo site.

The “Mahoroba” is a ship equipped with a new power source. It is powered by hydrogen, developed by Iwatani Corporation, and emits no carbon dioxide (CO2) during operation, making it the ultimate clean energy vehicle.

The company's founder, Naoji Iwatani, founded Iwatani Naoji Shoten in Osaka in 1930 at the age of 27, dealing in oxygen, carbide, and welding rods, and began working on the propane gas business in 1953. Mr. Iwatani was convinced that hydrogen would change the world in the 21st century, just as propane gas had changed the kitchen.

We would like to board the hydrogen fuel cell ship “Mahoroba” and enjoy the Osaka-Kansai Expo, a “testing ground for the future society,” while thinking about the outstanding for sight of Mr. Naoji Iwatani.
